About the Designer

Shweta Kapur is the founder and creative director of 431-88. Since launching her label in 2012, Kapur has developed a unique design language that celebrates self expression and an independent spirit through its modern retelling of classical Indian silhouettes, fine tailoring and luxe urban wear.

Empower people to collaborate and work in a way where there is minimum effort and maximum return

Shweta Kapur

Having graduated from London College of Fashion with an Honours in Fashion Design (Womenswear), she learned her way into the fashion business through university and several important internships in London, New York and India—having assisted at shoots for Vogue Italia and worked for labels such as Burberry, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, and VPL.

In 2014, she was invited to make her runway debut by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). That spring, her first show for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLFW) brought her immediate acclaim for her distinctly strong silhouettes, sexy sportswear and urban chic. Twenty Two Collections strong, 431-88 has become a regular on the Indian fashion calendar under Kapur’s creative direction, her work also earning her the Elle Graduates Award for Excellence in Urban Tailoring (2013).

With her inherent sense for what women want, Kapur creates, out of her studio in New Delhi, individualistic pieces that come together to tell a story about modern women—their lives, travels, and stories. Regular women, doing exceptional things, unbound by rules, and constantly reinventing themselves—reflecting a lifestyle and way of being that is as honest and authentic to her own life.
